Kaufman O'Neil Architecture worked closely again with the Lendlease team and Perkins + Will on this Industrical - Modern market rate rental and condominium building on the Chicago River at Southbank in Chicago's South Loop.
The building aesthetic is inspired by the area's rich industrial history. Three finish palettes were developed to be integral to the unit design while fitting within the modern industrial vibe. The exposed concrete ceilings were carefully crafted to expose and feature their making process. Each ceiling is unique and a record of the day it was built; affected by the weather and craftsmen working on the deck the day it was poured. Extensive mockups established what kind of materials could be used to form the decks and even the colors of layout marks were limited to create a serene material.
Condo buyers are able to choose from three material palettes developed by KOA that are distinct yet integral to the building finishes; Inkstone (Palette A), Foundry (Pallette B), and Vellum (Palette C).
KOA also provided design services for the project's Sales Center.
