Strand Hotel
Chicago, IL

Kaufman O'Neil created a feasibility study for the restoration and adaptive reuse of this 1914 historic hotel into a 72 unit apartment building. Once part of a thriving entertainment district anchored by the former Tivoli theater to the south, the building fell into disrepair and was abandoned. Coordination with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and National Park Service was commenced to place the building on the National Register of Historic Places.

Services included documentation of the existing facilities, historic research, presentations to City of Chicago staff, walk throughs with IHPA, accessibility analysis, conceptual design of new apartments, ground floor supportive services, ground floor retail spaces and the mechanical systems.
